China has made a great
achievement in attracting foreign investment since its reform and opening-up
to the outside world. The statistics show that by the end of December,
2002 China had certificated 424,196 foreign investment projects and absorbed
$828.06 billion in total. As China officially entered into the WTO, it
has begun a new phase in its historical development.
Shanghai is the biggest industrial and commercial
city and economic center in China. In the past century, Shanghai has kept
its connection with the world and it is regarded as one of the most charming
cities by the foreign investors. Shanghai, full of vitality, is the focus
of the investors. According to the statistics, from 1979 to the end of
2002, Shanghai has attracted direct foreign investment of 27,740 items;
meanwhile absorbing $63.3732billion through contracts. The investing items
came from 104 countries and areas; 564 investing items belong to the world
Fortune 500 companies.
When we entered into the 21st century, again the
world chose Shanghai, presenting it with the honor of holding the 2010
World Exposition. Shanghai will seize this opportunity, speed up its pace
in constructing the metropolitan city and become one of the international
economy, finance, trade and shipping centers. Without doubt, the investment
environment in Shanghai is getting better and better, and Shanghai will
become the paradise for more investors.
China Council For The Promotion of International
Trade Shanghai Sub-council and China Chamber of International Commerce
Shanghai chamber of commerce edited and published Invest in Shanghai in
order to promote the international trade, make the best use of foreign
capital, introducing the advanced technology from abroad and carry out
various forms of international cooperation. This book systematically introduces
